AWARDS AND JUDGING
A panel of three judges will jury the work for the Fine Art Exhibition. Each has been selected for their broad range of competency and knowledge about the artwork being done in today’s world of art. The first step in selecting the work for the 2016 Fine Art Exhibition will be done via electronic submissions. All submitted work will be reviewed by each juror working independently. All work in the Iowa State Fair Fine Art Competition is judged on the basis of the work alone. Adult entries are judged with other pieces in the same media category initially. The criteria of effective composition, skillful use of the media, and evocative power are kept in mind.
Selection of prize winners will occur from the physical pieces after they have been delivered to the Cultural Center. Changes have been made in an attempt to clarify the characteristics and enlarge the “pool of winners” for which prizes are given, The money which has been previously available for “merit” awards and for “media” awards has been restructured, thus making more awards available to more artists. Prize values listed below will be fulfilled with cash and or merchandise of equal value.
In the Adult category the following prizes will be offered:
In each of 13 media areas for adults the following three prizes will be offered:
- $125 First Prize
- $75 Second prize
- $50 Third prize
In the Youth category the following five prizes will be offered:
- $100 First prize
- $75 Second Prize
- $50 Third Prize
- $25 Fourth prize
- $25 Fifth Prize
In the Junior category five trophies will be given to winning work for
- First Prize
- Second Prize
- Third Prize
- Fourth Prize
- Fifth Prize
